When she was born (17 years before the series began) Earth and Fire were at war. Shoutaku was plauged by Shichibi (the seven tailed Bijuu) Shichibi is a foul-temptered Koudo (earth) Spirit.
Shoutaku was desperate for more power, since they are the closest Hidden Village to the boarder of Fire. So they hired a Shinobi (of unknown origin at this time, although it's a known fact that the Yondaime Hokage not yet the Hokage at the time was leading Fire's resistance in that area) to seal Shichibi into a new born and use them as a weapon in the war.
Senjin's biological parents are unknown, although there is a very high likelyhood that either one or both of her parents were Shinobi of Shoutaku.
However, just a few years later, the war was over and Senjin was no longer needed. But she was raised as a weapon and taught to hate Fire, so when Konoha became thier allies, she disobeyed orders and frequently invaded Fire on rogue missions to kill high ranked Konoha Shinoi.
Her village was afraid of her and the power she had. So she arrested, but they weren't able to hold her. She killed her entire village when she released her Jinchuuriki-Bijuu Form (Seven-Tail) because she couldn't control Shichibi. She wears the Konoha leaf on her shirt as a reminder of who her sworn enemies are.
After she became a Missing-Nin she met Itachi. It was his job as a member of Akatsuki to get close to her so that they could extract Shichibi. (In the 'Rescue Gaara Arc' that Akatsuki has managed to capture two Jinchuuriki and their bijuu so far. It is unknown what tailed demon it was and which Akatsuki member captured it. The only firm details are that the jinchuuriki was an outcast, who was abandoned by their village when Akatsuki came to capture them. Senjin was one of them.)
But Senjin fell in love with Itachi and he killed her. In the end, she dies because she fell in love with the wrong man. Itachi also never loved her back... he tolerated her company because she hates Konoha as much as he does, and she's just a dark and twisted like he is.

Senjin's Return to Grace
She closes her eyes, and for a moment she can still pretend that everything is the way it always was. Somewhere in the distance, past the black that suffocates her – she knows the world she never really belonged to is crumbling. She can see blood-red eyes, steeled, emotionless, and cruel – just the way she likes them.
But here, in this world – in the strange swamp that she barely recognizes anymore, there are clouds hanging over the horizon, shading her from the mid-day summer sun. There is a lingering sent of passing afternoon rain showers wafting by on the breeze. And there is laughter caught up in the wind. It swirls around her body and invades her battered mind. But all her delusions of happiness and tranquility have all been shattered by the reality she knows is happening just past this serene swamp and lonely day.
She is caught in a world that she can no longer control. Bound by fate but condemned because of her love for a man who betrayed her in the end, just like she always knew he would. Yet, she can still sense him. She can feel his presence in the shadows now that she's all alone in the night, lying on the cold dirt floor of this oh so familiar cave.
It seems fitting that this is her end, that she would die in the same place that they created life. It was his lips that held her stated and his naked body moving against hers that produced the seed that grows in her womb, even now – as her death is so close.
She belongs there. Unlike so many others who may have passed through this place on their way to the afterlife or those yet to come who don't deserve such an undignified end – she knows that she belongs there. Because she is the only one to blame for all the mass graves in the foothills of the Swamp Country and the midnight fires that cinder away all traces of the bodies she left in her wake. This is exactly the place where she is meant to rot and wither away.
She will leave nothing behind but broken bones and the tattered pieces of the cloud covered black robe in her hands. She leaves this world, her unborn child, and him very much like the day she entered it. Cold, alone, and bound to the past. She can not continue on as Shichibi will, but she will die here at the foot of a precipice too vast for her to even recognize as home anymore, even if she can feel his eyes pass through the darkness that surrounds her.
So as she heads into the great unknown of the afterlife she dies remorseless and pregnant.
